Author Interview: Forever Together by Jade Whitfield

About the Author:

Author Jade Whitfield is a 22 year old mother of one. As the mother of a very active two year old, she finds that a good book helps her to relax after a day of running around.

In the past two years, she has broadened her scope of reading. She has always been an avid fantasy reader leaning towards the good old Catherine Cookson’s books. When she received a Kindle as a birthday present, she started reading all different kinds of books. In doing so she found a love for the romance books.

In school she was always good with English and Writing. So it came natural for her to write her first romance book titled ‘Forever Love’.

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I’m a terrible planner so that would be a terrible idea for me. With every book I spend about a day planning to plan and never actually do it. I find it much easier to just let the story flow and let the characters take you wherever they’re meant to go. No book tends to end the way you expect it to anyway. Though if there’s an important milestone to the story or a really great idea I do jot it down for later use.

What is your favourite food?

All food! As a child I was a really picky eater but as I’ve gotten older I just want to eat everything! I love pizza and Chinese the most though. And who doesn’t like McDonalds?!

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

A night owl absolutely. Most of my work is done at night and I find I do some of my best writing when its dark out. Plus, I hate mornings. I’m a person who loves their sleep.

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

I love cold places. I’m not a huge fan of the Summer or when its warm so anywhere warm would be a no no. I do love travelling even though I haven’t done much of it. I guess I love the idea of it and I really enjoy discovering and exploring new places.

Do distant places feature in your books?

Yes. I’m from the UK and my books take place near Savannah, Georgia. I had to do a ridiculous amount of research from the history of the state to actually studying a map of Savannah.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

Forever Together is a second chance love story about Cindy and Brady, two supporting characters from my previous book, Forever Love. Its Contemporary romance meets Romantic Comedy meets New Adult. It’s very funny and in my opinion quite light hearted though there is some angst thrown in.

What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

So much. For one it’s a lot harder than I expected. It’s also hugely time consuming. If anything I think writing as become harder for me with every work because expectations are a lot higher and I set the bar higher with everything.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Probably not take things so personally. With my first book I’d have a meltdown over a one-star review. I was so proud and protective of it that I couldn’t imagine anyone not liking it. Now I realise that everyone has different tastes genres and that’s ok. When I first started with this I was so stressed and wound up, constantly on edge. Now I’m happy wherever I go and although I want people to enjoy what I write if they don’t that’s ok too.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

Certain characteristics are certainly based on people I know or who I’ve seen. Trina from my books is based on Nene Leakes from Real Housewives of Atlanta. I always say Brady’s a mix of Steve Stiffler from American Pie and Joey Tribbiani from Friends.

Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?

Enjoy it. Stressing isn’t gonna do anything, worrying isn’t gonna help. If your enjoying what your writing, then there’s gonna be at least one other person in the world that will too.

What are three words that describe you?

I’d describe myself as funny, friendly and determined. My family and friends on the other hand would probably describe me as blunt, neurotic and over dramatic.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

I have so many favourite writers. To name a few it would have to be Jodi Ellen Malpas, Tamsyn Bester, Aurora Rose Reynolds and Jacy Oliver. My favourite book would have to be Sense and Sensibility because it’s the first romance I ever read and the first to make me cry.

Dark haired beauty, Cindy Martin was once lucky in love, until her boyfriend broke her heart and sent her running. Attending college in faraway Los Angeles was the perfect excuse to get away, settle her heart and drown herself in wine and tears – except now she is back for the summer, and her ex hasn’t gone anywhere.

Brady Cooper is handsome, arrogant and still head over heels in love with Cindy. Six months ago, he let fear rule him and he made a mistake that cost him everything – now he just has to get her to believe him.

Surrounded by friends and family that know too much and meddle a little too closely, can this once perfect pair overcome the obstacles in front of them, mend their hearts and finally be Forever Together?

Sometimes the very thing that broke your heart is the only thing that can fix it.
