Excerpt:

The fact that he knew my name didn’t alarm me.

My family owned half the city, including a good portion of this very hospital. Considering that my
sister’s escapades were constant fodder for the tabloids, I would have been more insulted if he didn’t know who I was.

But once again …it was that look in his eyes. It chilled me right down to the bone; I know you, Eleanor Gray, it said. Way more than just a face from the Society Pages.

Before I could choke out a reply, he smiled—for real this time—and my poor brain struggled to find the right words to describe it. Dazzling. Magnificent ...

The flash of pearly white teeth nearly knocked me senseless. I lost my grip on the handkerchief for a split second, sparking the taste of copper over my tongue.

“Word travels fast around here,” he said, voice traveling down my spine.

I felt my nose wrinkle as I frowned. Apparently news of my terminal illness had spread before I’d even left the damn hospital. How long before my picture ended up splattered over the front of some tabloid beneath the headline, Heiress given weeks to live?

I didn’t answer. Instead, I willed my nose to stop bleeding, though I had a feeling that I was quickly becoming in danger of needing transfusion number four.

I felt so dizzy all of a sudden. As if, at any moment, I could pass out. Faint.

“What do you see?”

“Huh?”

The question threw me off and had me turning to face him before I could help it. Wordlessly, he inclined his head and my eyes automatically followed.

The hall we were in opened onto a causeway, where patients and visitors alike wandered the pristine floor.

The sight reminded me of a hotel—albeit minus the IV poles some people sported instead of suitcases. The air was the same: that busy, ‘places to go, people to see, get the hell out of my way’ vibe that made everyone seem closed off, further away.

Without meaning to, I found my gaze settling over a young girl who had her head wrapped in a polka dot headscarf. Beside her, a man I guessed to be her father pushed an IV pole that rattled over the floor.

She was almost as pale as I was, with dark, bruise-like circles underneath her eyes—but that wasn’t what stood out to me the most.

She was smiling. Walking, talking and …smiling. Despite the obvious physical signs, if you went off that expression alone, you would have never guessed she was sick at all. My gaze remained glued to her, even as the mysterious doctor spoke up again.

“Mortality,” he said grimly. “It’s the most precious commodity in the world, don’t you agree?”

I nodded. I may have not been that invested in my own life, but I could read the fervent desire on all the other faces—from the new mother carrying her infant in a car seat, to the elderly man clutching a newspaper to his chest.

The lust to live was always the same.

“There are some who would do anything for another chance at life, for more time.”

He spoke so matter-of-factly that it wasn’t until my mind processed what he was really saying that his morbid tone struck me like a blow.

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I sounded like I was under water.  My nose was still dripping. Even the pressure of my hand wasn’t enough to staunch the blood flow.

“You wouldn’t,” Mr. Gray Eyes said with a shrug. “Immortality doesn’t interest you, does it, Eleanor?”

Alarm raced down my spine—no longer was I convinced that this was just a random chat with a stranger. It was all in his tone.

“I have to go.”  I clutched the now bloody handkerchief and tried to stand. My legs felt as flaccid as limp noodles. Sweat poured down the back of my neck, and the erratic beat of my heart quickened and then faltered. Thump, thump, th-ump.

“You’re not afraid of death,” the man—though I was now seriously doubting that he was a doctor—continued. “You welcome it; or so you tell yourself. But, I’m here to offer you a choice—”

“I think …I need a real doctor.”

I was through humoring him. Without bothering to be polite, I attempted to stagger in the direction of the activity, grasping onto anything to steady me. My hands were slippery and my once-burgundy peacoat was now soaked scarlet.

Hemohemorrahgia kept haunting me in Doctor Wallis’ curt tones. 90% fatality!

“Mortality can be a hindrance of sorts.”

The man was still talking, only I had no idea just what he was getting at. More importantly, why hadn’t he gotten a doctor or flagged down a nurse? I clung to the wall and scanned the crowd of blurring faces, desperate to catch sight of another white lab coat.

“I think I …need …help.”

It took all my strength just to get the words out. And he only ignored me.

“I’m here to offer you a choice, Eleanor: accept your impending death, or …something else.”

It doesn’t exist.

Plus, it’s not at all interesting.

And my relationships with Thomas and Alex?

Well that’s a story for the ages…

***

Excerpt:

Pulling something from a drawer, you turn around. “Oh, I know you do, but I’m talking about this,” you say waving something back and forth in your hand.

“A blindfold?”

You grin. “Mhm.”

“Why?”

“Why not?” you counter. I don’t say anything else as you walk over to me. “Can I?”

I’m curious, so I say, “Sure.”

You laugh as you place the blindfold over my eyes. “Don’t act so excited about it.”

“I’m excited,” I say. “But I’m a little on edge.”

“You’ll like it. Trust me.” Placing a finger to my chest you gently push me back. “Lie down, Stella, and enjoy it.”

I can’t believe how nervous I am. I know it’s you. I know you’re the one fucking me, but not having my eyesight right now keeps me on edge. Makes me wonder what you’re going to do and when you’re going to do it. I don’t know where you are, so I listen and I smell. I listen to your feet as they walk across the hardwood floor. The smells of sex take over my whole body. Your sweat. My arousal.

“What are you thinking?”

I try to control my breathing and beating heart. I wonder if you can see how nervous I am. Probably. But I know it’s just you. “I don’t know.”

“Are you nervous?”

“A little,” I answer honestly.

“Why? It’s just me.” The second the words leave your mouth, a finger trails up my thigh, and I jump. “Whoa.” You chuckle. “Easy, Stella. Remember. It’s. Just. Me.”

Letting out a deep breath, I laugh. “Okay.”

“Now, Stella. I want you to spread your legs apart.”

I listen. I don’t say anything, just try to let all of my other senses take over. The bed dips, and I feel you crawling up the bed and resting in between my legs. Your lips leave little kisses up the insides of my thighs. They cause goose bumps, my nipples to tighten, and my body to tremble. Times ten. The darkness. I like it, a lot more than I thought I would. We’ve never done this before, and I’m surprised it’s taken this long for us to do it.

Your arms move under my legs, pulling me closer to you.

“Whoa.” I giggle, surprised when you don’t say anything. I lift my head, forgetting I have on a blindfold, then feeling stupid when I realize I can’t see you. “Thomas?”

“Sssh,” you whisper.

Sucking in a deep breath, I release and rest my head against the mattress once more. Even though I’m blindfolded I close my eyes and keep them that way. Torturously, your fingers touch right above where I need you, trailing along. My hips jump, and you laugh. “Thomas?” I whisper, but again there’s no answer. Just a long, wet lick from you and a moan from me.

I think you’re going to give me time to get used to it, but you don’t. Instead, you grab my hips and pull me down to you, keeping a firm grasp on me. “Oh my god,” I start to say, but it comes out as a loud moan when you suck my nub into your mouth and push a finger, then two, into me. My walls tighten. My belly flutters. My chest rises and falls. The feelings I was experiencing before the blindfold quickly wash over me again. Gripping the bed sheets, I scream your name as you begin to push me over the edge. “Oh my god!” My back arches, my hips push up further into your face, needing even more pleasure.

“That’s right, baby. Come for me.”

My body stiffens. Your voice. It’s not where it should be, and I know I still shouldn’t be feeling a mouth on me when I hear you say that, but I can’t push away. I’m too far on the edge. Quickly, my body relaxes. “Oh my god,” I moan louder.

“That’s right, Stella. Come for me baby. Show me.”

“Fuck,” I mutter, now grinding against the mouth of someone else—someone I don’t even know.

About the Author:

For the past 21 years, I have been a planner and an organizer. I always needed things a specific way and then everything changed for me. I've always had a vivid imagination and thoughts racing through my mind. I realized that life is way too short to let things pass me by, because in the blink of an eye everything could change. So I decided to just live in the moment, taking every chance and opportunity led my way. No second thoughts and just going with the flow.

I decided to put the fictional characters and the conversations going on in my head to paper. I know, it makes me sound crazy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I've embraced crazy and hectic and last minute because it's led me to making my dreams a reality.

When I'm not writing Happily Ever After's I'm reading about them and living one. I think this world is filled with too much sadness already we don't need to read about it as well. I write because I love it and I've allowed my imagination to run wild and be crazy and free. Just like me.

She soon discovers what Justin has always known: Their love was worth waiting for.

Excerpt:

It's funny how an hour can seem like forever in the daily monotony of life, but when you're with your first love on your first drive after your first kiss, it races by. We drove from home, around the mountains and into the cities. They weren't too far away, but we never went there. It was a whole different world. He had saved up his money for gas and the day for I don't know how long, and now it was time.

We had to go a long way to get there, but by the end we were right where Justin and I both wanted to be: he was looking at planes, and I was looking at him in a whole new way. I wanted to kiss him every chance I could, and he gladly obliged me—after all, it was my birthday. There was so much more to take in at that museum. I think his decision to take me there was his attempt to be cultured and civilized.

To be honest, I couldn’t have cared less about them, but he knew everything about all of them. I'd never seen him so passionate: he knew the make of all but three planes by sight and told me how they worked and what their specialties were.

He was in his element, but he never let go of my hand, taking me into his fantasies of the future. He'd pull me along, my little hand in his, sometimes raising them both up in the air with his finger extended to show me a feature of the model he was looking at. I loved seeing his eyes twinkle and hearing him know all the right things to say.

Book Spotlight: Surviral by Ken Benton

Surviral
by Ken Benton
Apocolyptic
Kindle version: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R4VD7PS
Author website: www.SurvivalTales.com

Book Description:

The deadliest flu season in a hundred years is about to turn a whole lot deadlier. When an accident at a famous medical research facility lets a mutated avian flu strain out, a nightmare scenario unfolds.  Before authorities can react, millions are infected—and that’s just the beginning. The mortality rate exceeds 80%. Leaders and elected officials soon learn the man-manipulated virus respects neither rank nor stature. The resulting chain reaction leads to a collapse of modern society—even in Colorado, where no cases of the killer strain have yet appeared.

Clint Stonebreaker, a happily-married software engineer living in Denver, doesn’t like watching the news. He especially doesn’t let Jake, his wacky doomsday-prepping brother, watch it when he visits. But when chaos goes viral through the entire country, Clint and his wife Jenny are forced to acknowledge reality. They find themselves hitting the road with their gun-enthusiast neighbor to escape the deteriorating city. Their goal? Reaching Clint’s hunting cabin in Southeastern Colorado and trying to make a homestead of it.

They don’t get far before running into a gauntlet of obstacles. Colorado seems to have become a giant sociological experiment, with dire consequences for making the wrong decisions. The spirit of American resolve is pitted against the ugly realty of criminal opportunism in every direction they turn. Ironically, Clint isn’t sure which is worse: being forced to survive in the midst of civil unrest, or knowing he’ll have to admit to Jake that he was right. Assuming he can find him…

***

Excerpt:

Because Harold and Barry were both light sleepers, they decided Clint should take the first “watch.” It was only prudent for someone to stay awake and keep an eye on the cars, as well as the personal belongings Barry and Shay had to unload in order to fold their rear seat down for their makeshift bed. Harold would relieve Clint in a couple hours, and then Barry would take the last shift. Barry assured them he would be awake in the wee hours anyway.

“There is one thing that concerns me,” Barry said. “I’d feel better if our perimeter was more …secure.”

“I know what you mean.” Harold scanned their surroundings. “Well, we could move the cars to fence us in better.”

“Sounds like a good idea,” Jenny said.

Harold and Barry adjusted the two wagons so they were back to back, overlapping just a little. They decided it was good enough and everyone but Clint retired to try and sleep.

Clint sat in the comfortable canvas chair he brought along and gazed at the night sky. The smell of campfires was still heavy and the stars were out. He thought about Jake. Jake always liked the stars. Clint checked his cell phone for the twentieth time, but there were still no bars.

Jenny came out of the tent. Clint expected her to come over and kiss him goodnight, but instead she scurried to Harold’s tent and called him. The two of them talked in low voices before Harold got up and walked to his car. He came back with a small vinyl bag and handed it to Jenny. She thanked him and they both went back inside their tents.

Clint could still hear bits and pieces of conversations from the other campers. Not enough to understand the exchanges, but he picked up certain words that gave him the gist of the topics being discussed. Everyone was trying to go somewhere. People were concerned about their own safety, in addition to the safety of the ones they were going to see. Complaints about phones not working were also popular. Clint realized he and Jenny were in the same predicament as everyone else. Barry and Shay, too. They were nice folks. Good thing Clint picked this spot, so they could partner up with them for the night.

Clint caught himself nodding off twice. He eventually decided to move to the picnic table to prevent any further occurrences. Harold got up and relieved him shortly thereafter. He had a book, and turned the lantern back on so he could read.

Inside the tent, Jenny was sleeping lightly. She rustled as Clint found a comfortable position next to her. That’s when he noticed the vinyl bag Harold gave her was partially unzipped. He couldn’t be certain in the dark, but it looked to contain one of Harold’s pistols. Clint wasn’t sure whether that should relax him or make him nervous.

It must have relaxed him, because the next thing he knew it was morning. The sounds of people talking—along with car doors shutting and engines starting—caused his eyes to open and find sunlight.

When he and Jenny crawled out of the tent, Harold was talking to Barry next to his brown Volvo. Barry and Shay were packed up already, and apparently about to leave. Shay waited in the passenger seat. Clint and Jenny approached them.

“Good morning!” Barry said “The roads have reopened. Here.” He held out a piece of paper. Clint took it. There was writing on it.

“That’s the name, address, and phone number of Shay’s sister in Pueblo. If you need anything, or have any trouble travelling, feel free to contact us there. Or, if you happen to find yourself in Pueblo, stop by and visit.”

Shay rolled her window down. “Bye, guys. So nice meeting you. Bye, Jenny. Good luck!”

Clint was still groggy as they said their final goodbyes. He wished he had a cup of coffee. They had a bag of grounds packed away, but no practical way to make it.

Barry got in his car and joined the crowd of vehicles that were all attempting to leave at the same time. He first tried to wedge his way into the line, but then seemed to have an inspired notion. He turned and drove right through the trees to get to the side road, his windshield acquiring a small pine branch in the process. Several other cars then followed his example.

“We might as well wait until this clears out more,” Harold said. “Go ahead and use the bathrooms if you need to. I’ll start packing up.”

Harold had everything loaded when Clint and Jenny returned from the restrooms. The field cleared out fast and was nearly vacant by now. Unsightly patches of burned grass marked the sites of last night’s campfires. One of them was still smoldering.

“Are we ready?” Harold said. He appeared to be in good spirits.

They took one final look around before climbing into the car for the road trip. Clint was hopeful of a reunion with his brother before this day was through. Harold started the engine and put the car in gear.

But he has a secret passion: doomsday survival prepping. And if you ever snuck up behind him to see what he was reading, it would likely be one of those apocalyptic-survival stories set after the collapse of modern society. Yes, he’s one of those nuts. But someday soon, Ken believes, those nuts may become the new upper class in society. Until then, we’ll just have to make do with story-telling. And preparing. Cheers.

Author Interview & Giveaway: Feast of Fates by Christian A. Brown

About the Author:

Christian A. Brown has written creatively since the age of six. After spending most of his career in the health and fitness industry, Brown quit his job to care for his mother when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in 2010.

Having dabbled with the novel that would eventually become Feast of Fates for over a decade, Brown was finally able to finish the project. His mother, who was able to read a beginning version of the novel before she passed away, has since imbued the story with deeper sentiments of loss, love, and meaning. He is proud to now share the finished product with the world.

Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I formulate a beginning and an end, beforehand. I think it’s important to know how you want to start and what goal you have in mind, what message there is for the reader. Then, I usually just write a few chapters and let the story form itself. Once I have a few chapters down, I then work on smaller a synopsis for each chapter and a larger framework to fill in the gaps. I find that if you start with too many “plot points”, then the narrative can become very stilted and unnatural. It’s more enjoyable when crazy stuff just happens—for me and the reader 

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

My characters generally take over my stories, and my life outside of my head, too. I focus on characterization A LOT. I really work at making believable people, with real dialog and motivations. It’s not uncommon for me to become so immersed in a manuscript that I talk in my sleep, or wake up after four hours rest utterly galvanized and ready to write.

What is your favourite food?

Healthy, simple stuff. Salads and lean meats. Fish and veggies. If I had to pick a type, probably sushi/ sashimi, since its light and leaves you satisfied without being bloated.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

One of those annoyingly awake morning people. I’m chipper and pert while everyone else is yawning and farting themselves awake (the farter in the house knows who they are )

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

Many places in the old world. Sites of ancient myth and magic. Depending on when this interview goes live, I may have seen a few, since I’m off for a romp around the UK this Christmas. Plenty of the ancient world to see there. If Outlander has taught us one thing though, it is to keep my hands of mystic standing stones. I have too many books planned to be derailed by marriage to a highlander of a bygone age.

Do distant places feature in your books?

Oh yes, very much so. As I implied I’m addicted to myth and lore. I also enjoy the “journey” narrative, of a quest to reach something across a long distance. As we know, it’s often the journey that defines us, more than the goal.

Do you listen to music while writing?

Classical usually. Sometimes, however, I write best in silence.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

Feast of Fates is classified as a fiction/ fantasy/ romance/ epic. (Those are literally its BISC categories) In my own words, the story is about love. Love when it is bright, golden and beautiful. Love when it is twisted to the blackest hate. Feast of Fates is an exploration on these various shades of feeling. I do not shy away from realistic or painful scenarios, reader be warned.

What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

Oh my. Way too much to fit into a paragraph or two. I guess that the most important thing, if you’re serious, is to treat writing like a business. That means clock in your hours, be open to criticism and “performance improvement”, and respect the environment and people with whom you work. Also, consult professionals, often. Establish a stable of visual artists, graphic artists, web designers, editors, proofreaders and PR folk. I believe that we are inherently responsible for our success, or failure. On the subject of failure, I’ve done that, many times in many ways throughout this journey. But the important thing is to pick yourself up and keep moving forward.

Is there anything you would do differently?

Nearly everything! Moving into production of my second book now, it’s amazing how smooth the process is, since all the stumbles are out of the way. Still, I wouldn’t trade my failures for anything.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

The time I spent with my mother during her illness (lymphoma). I discovered new depths in myself for love, devotion, and a deeper appreciation for life—and death. I’m also influenced by language in general. English is a diverse and almost never-ending playground for the mind. We have so many words and intimations that I have yet to find something that I cannot express.

Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?

Refer to my above comment on “writing and publishing”. Also, don’t ever give up, if this is what you feel in your heart you should do.

What are three words that describe you?

Obsessive, active, thoughtful.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

Such a tough question… Timothy Findley, for his dialog and characterization. Neil Gaiman, for his eccentricity. Tolkien, for the scope of his vision. Ursula K. LeGuin, because she’s just an all-around breathtaking storyteller.

Blurb of your latest release or coming soon book

I’m going to cheat a little and use an editorial review snippet. I feel it sums up everything nice one could say about the series.

"In this rousing epic-fantasy debut, two unlikely lovers forge a bond in the midst of a war between immortal kings. It would have been difficult for Brown to present a more sensual, or satisfying, debut. His motifs run the epic-fantasy gamut, from ancient forests pulsing with life to malevolent phenomena looming in the depths of space. His excellent prose, however, truly sets this book apart from the fantasy herd. Every page crackles with images full of vibrant emotion. An unmissable fantasy tale that marries gorgeous prose to a lavishly detailed plot."

Book Description: When an altercation outside of a performance venue nearly proves fatal, Brandon Chane begins to realize how far his life is spinning out of control. His efforts to channel his pain, frustration and thwarted loves into his music may not suffice to save him. Then he meets Saul, a crisis counselor with the soul of an ancient medicine-man, and a far-reaching journey of healing - one that may teach him how to steer away from the very edge of the Abyss - begins.

Excerpt:

1. The Edge of the Precipice

I suppose you could compare it to driving on a high mountain road. You don’t realize how close you are to free-fall, or how sheer and far is the plunge, until you go around a bend where one side is exposed to open air and then there it is: The Abyss.
There’s this edge that you can come to – I imagine it’s a different place for each of us – and you just know that once you get swept over it you won’t be coming back. By the time you’re close enough to see it it may already be too late. You could find yourself teetering, suddenly hearing the warnings that life had been giving you all along, knowing that it’s become impossible to step back; because by that time, those other forces – the ones pounding like the rapids at your back, always trying to push you towards that edge and then over it – have grown too strong.
Tommy and I first talked about forming a band together before either of us had learned to play an instrument. We both perceived music – particularly, its heavy, extreme underside - as the ideal vehicle for our personal salvation. The first guitar that I purchased, a Fender Telecaster that I immediately spray painted black to my father’s horror, became my refuge. It was my best friend and confidante. It gave me a convenient excuse to avoid social situations that, more often than not, would only remind me of how far off the beaten path I really was – and, oftentimes, land me in one merciless scrap or another. Instead, I could just sit in my basement room for hours, listening to my various hardcore underground cassettes while trying to trace the riffs I was hearing along the frets of my charcoal-colored axe.
That’s how I learned to play so well within just a handful of years. I gave up on the romanticized notion of a normal social life and focused on practicing and creating. Tommy, meanwhile, had picked up the bass. Somewhere along the line we discovered that we each had halfway-decent singing voices as well, at least for the kind of abrasive music we were writing.

Book Description:

Can you have love and power at the same time?

Congressman Jonathan Brond has mastered his work, his reputation and the art of sexual domination while keeping his family’s political legacy intact. But a chance encounter with college student Christiana Snow promises something he didn’t think was possible–meeting someone honest.

When the charismatic man proposes a summer of sensual, sexual submission, Christiana leaps into his world—the antidote to her bland life. But Washington, D.C. is an unforgiving place; soon gossip and scandal threatens their relationship.

Yet, in a town of players, sometimes introducing a new game is the only way out. Who knew love would be the winning plan?

Stand alone. Not a cliff-hanger.

Excerpt:

The Jefferson Suite had a reputation. Everyone said so.

Christiana Snow watched Henrick, the sous-chef, slip a red rose into the silver bud vase on the room service tray she’d been tasked to deliver. “There are some naughty stories about the guests that stay in that suite.” He winked. “Let me take you to dinner, and I’ll tell you all about it."

She turned her back on Henrick’s smirk—and his eyes that never seemed to travel farther north than her neck. Since the day Christiana started working at The Oak she’d fought the desire to bend her knees to force his gaze to her face. It would only give him the wrong idea.

Instead she threw back two ibuprofens with her milk and then set the glass into a nearby bin of dirty dishes. Gossip made her head hurt.

She felt Henrick’s eyes travel her body as she pushed the room service cart into the elevator. "For a reporter's daughter, you aren't very curious,” he called after her.

Curiosity wasn’t the issue. The Oak, which stood mere blocks from the White House, attracted politicians and paparazzi—and dozens of men, sporting earbuds attached to wires disappearing into their dark suits, sent to watch them both. It took real concentration to ignore the stories that the hotel’s staff collected like trophies.

At least the tips were good at the boutique hotel and restaurant, and the mundane work gave her time to think—or think forward, as her father always said. And that’s what she was going to do—think forward and move forward. She didn’t have time to get wrapped up in other people’s lives and certainly not the pseudo reality of the D.C. politicos.

The elevator creaked to a stop. Water sloshed in the silver pitcher as Christiana leaned over the cart to push the slatted metal door aside. A dusty, oil-paint smell greeted her as she started down the hallway, lined with canvases of hunting scenes set in over-sized, gilded frames higher than she was tall and wider than her arms could stretch.

Christiana took in a lungful of the stagnant air as she reached the Jefferson Suite’s double doors at the end of the corridor. She knocked and listened for the sound of footsteps. No one came.

Her leg danced with impatience. Mrs. DeCord’s order was Christiana’s last task of the day, and she wanted to finish it as fast as possible to rush off to meet Avery, her best friend. Christiana had agreed to be her “date” at some society fundraiser that afternoon.

Christiana studied the rich mahogany crown molding, lining the long hallway. Gold brocade wallpaper led her eyes to images of smiling women, draped in gossamer swaths of pastel blue and green fabric. They stared down from their ceiling mural home, their eyes cold and full of secrets.

Christiana knocked on the door once more. After no response, she pulled her master key card from her apron pocket and slipped it to the lock slot. The door cracked open but stopped against something on the other side. Through the gap in the door, she saw a man’s shoe lying on its side.

She called into the room, “Hello? Room service. Ma’am?” No one answered though muffled voices resonated deeper within.

Well, she couldn’t wait. She pushed harder on the door, and the shoe slid aside.

The cart’s wheels whispered over the marble entryway floor. She announced herself one more time. No reply. She picked up the man’s dress shoe, an expensive leather smell wafting to her nose. She set it down beside a tufted chair in the hall.

A male voice echoed from the bathroom off the suite’s master bedroom. “No, Yvette.”

“Please take me. I won’t say a thing.” Mrs. DeCord’s voice reverberated off the tile.

“You know our agreement.”

Mrs. DeCord whined, “I don’t understand why I wasn’t invited. I’ll show up anyway.”

“You won’t do any such thing, Yvette.” He spoke her name like a caress. “Take off your panties.”

Christiana’s insides seized at the man’s abrupt change in tone. Maybe she had heard wrong. After a long silence, she urged the cart forward, but the wheels bogged down on the plush carpet in the living area.

The voice spoke. “Bend over, put your hands on the counter. Good. Look in the mirror. Eyes on me, Yvette.”

Smack! A sharp slap pierced the air, and Christiana jerked backward as if stung. Mrs. DeCord moaned. Was she hurt?

About the Author:

Elizabeth SaFleur is an erotic romance author who is finally sharing what simmers in her imagination—lots of alpha males, seductive encounters, and love. For many years she lived and worked in her novels’ setting, Washington, D.C., in public relations. In her thirty-year career, she represented or encountered some of the city's powerful insiders.

Elizabeth now writes, tweets and posts under her pseudonym, Elizabeth SaFleur, since her former clients might be a little shocked at their past PR counselor’s new career choice.  Then again, perhaps they would fear they provided inspiration. (She has sworn secrecy.)

Her series, the Elite Doms of Washington, is contemporary erotic romance for the progressive woman—unafraid and unencumbered by society’s boundaries.

Lovely, the first novel in the series debuting in January 2015, was inspired one sunny day at an outside cafĆ© in Washington Harbor where Elizabeth swore she witnessed a woman being lashed to a sailboat mast, happily. Lovely’s hero, Jonathan Brond, was born that day when he silently answered her unspoken question, “does she like that?” with yet another question: “Would you like to find out?”

Today Elizabeth shares twenty-eight, wildlife-filled acres in Central Virginia with her husband and dog, and is sometimes separated from her laptop to indulge in dance classes and visits to wineries and hiking trails with friends. She lives by one quote: “If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you.”

Elizabeth is a member of the Romance Writers Association, the Washington Romance Writers, and avid reader of all fiction genres, but especially books with a happily-ever-after ending. Visit www.ElizabethSaFleur.com to drop her a note.

Book Description:

Most people believe Eden no longer exists. Lexi Merrill’s about to learn they’re wrong. A hard-working bartender with a self-sufficient backbone and a wary nature, she knows pickup lines like a second language. So, when Eryx Shantos barges into her world with too-smooth words and a body to back it up, she locks up her libido and vows to keep her distance.

Eryx has other ideas. As king of the Myren race, Eryx is duty-bound to enforce the laws preventing exposure of their existence to humans. Yet The Fates have led him through his dreams to Lexi, a temptation he doesn’t want to resist. The question—is she Myren, or human - which makes her forbidden fruit?

When Eryx’s nemesis tags Lexi as his next target, Eryx insists on taking her home where he can keep her safe. Lexi had no idea “home” would mean the one-and-only land of creation…or that she’d trigger a prophecy that could doom her newfound race.

Excerpt:

Lexi high-stepped it down the hall to the room she shared with Eryx. Sconces blazed to life along the walls with each step, Eryx setting them alight with his mind to light her way. Providing what you need.

Ugh. Not something she could think about right now. His sure, confident strides sounded behind her. No matter how far ahead she tried to stay, his hunger burned inside her. Stupid gift. Now that she’d somehow uncorked it, she couldn’t get it turned it off—and damned if she wasn’t a raging inferno as a result.

She’d thought asking for time would calm his fears. Maybe ease his foot off the throttle a little bit. But oh, no. She’d tugged the lion’s tail, tossed out a slab of meat, and thrown the cage door open wide.

The door to their room whipped open and thudded against the wall.

She flinched, but kept going. “You don’t need to be so melodramatic.”

She’d gone for playful, but ended up sounding like Marilyn Monroe on a heaped-up dose of Spanish Fly. Moving to the dresser, she tugged off her blue leather sandals. “Maybe we can rest later and you can teach me how to move things with my mind instead.”

Eryx ripped his tank over his head and tossed it to the floor. Smooth muscles, flexing under tight, tan skin.

She closed her gaping mouth. Tugged the lion’s tail indeed.

“I thought I’d give you something else.” He stalked her until her back met the wall and caged her with arms on either side of her head. “Something that will feed you instead of drain you.”

He ran his nose along the column of her neck and inhaled, slow and deep.

Goosebumps prickled along her forearms and her belly fluttered. “I thought you said I needed to rest.”

“You need energy. I’m going to give it to you.” He nipped her earlobe then sucked at the same spot. “You said you’ve never known family or love.” His hot breath brushed across her skin and his tongue traced the shell of her ear. “So I’ll give you that too.”

A blowtorch, insane, leave-me-here-to-die-in-glory fire blasted from her insides out. Where the hell was her caution? Her worry?

“I warned you.” He bit her lower lip and the sting zinged to her nipples. His hands abandoned the wall and caressed her back, her thin cotton tunic a nearly non-existent barrier. “You said you could take anything I threw at you.” He whipped the tunic over her head and the indigo fabric sailed to the floor behind him. “Then you’ll have me.” His gaze lowered to her bare breasts. “All of me.”

About the Author:

Rhenna never thought a weird dream, a bucket list, and an addiction to romance novels would lead her into publishing, but that’s exactly how Unexpected Eden came to life. Okay, there might have been a jillion revisions in there somewhere, and a few points where her family thought she’d lost her ever-lovin’ mind, but pretty much everyone’s accepted that this author thing is chronic.

When she’s not working on the rest of the Eden books or her naughty contemporary romances, you’ll find her chasing two precious little girls, batting eyelashes at her indulgent husband, or driving with the top down and the music up loud. Oh, and “researching” on the internet. Those half-naked men she uses for inspiration don’t download themselves.

She’d love to share her “research” with you too and get to know you a little better in the process. Find her blog, Facebook, Pinterest, and other social media links at www.rhennamorgan.com. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter there too for snippets, upcoming releases, and author news.

If you enjoyed Unexpected Eden, Eryx and Lexi would sure appreciate it if you shared your review at Goodreads, Amazon, or other favorite online bookstore. Lexi would make you a mean cyber-cocktail in exchange if she didn’t have her hands full with Eryx, but rumor has it they haven’t left the royal suite in days.

Excerpt:

God, he was good at this. She could already feel relaxation flowing through her body, followed by tingles of excitement as his tongue went to work, tormenting every sensitive spot. Her pleasure mounted, spiralling in her gut as she pushed her hips forward, aching for more movement, harder, faster, but Jason was still goingslowly and her breath raced in anticipation of the climax to come.

Tamar moaned, lacing her fingers into Jason’s hair as he pressed soft kisses to her pussy, alternating with tender licks until she could barely stand it. Jason slid his fingers inside her, grazing her sweet spot over and over again—

“Jason!”

Jason’s lips tightened around her clit, sucking, and Tamar threw back her head and screamed as the pleasure hit her.

Through the waves of ecstasy, she heard a loud pop from above her, followed by a sprinkling sensation on her skin.

“What the fuck?” she heard Jason say, and Tamar opened her eyes. Her chest and stomach were covered with shards of glass. Jason was sitting back on his ankles, staring up in irritated confusion as he brushed fragments out of his hair.

At least, it looked like he was. The room was in almost complete darkness, broken only by the bedside lamp and the street light outside the window.

“Did the light bulb blow?”

“I think it shattered.”

“Jesus.”

Together they got off the bed to sweep up the pieces of broken bulb, Tamar shaking her head in bemusement.

Now that had never happened before.

What did that mean?
