Do you plan everything or just let the story flow?

I let the story flow and plan almost nothing, often to my detriment.

Do your characters ever want to take over the story?

Yes, always. And, generally, I let them.

What is your favourite food?

Today it’s prawns korma. I’m craving it.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Definitely a morning person.

Where do you dream of travelling to and why?

I’ve had the good fortunate to travel a good deal, but have never been to China. I would like to see it because it is a nation on the cusp of great change. Well, perhaps already over the cusp . . .

Do distant places feature in your books?

Not terribly. All my books are set almost exclusively in the UK save for an occasional scene or two.

Do you listen to music while writing?

No, I need total quiet.

Could you tell us a bit about your latest release?

The book is called A BRIDE BY MOONLIGHT and it is a mid-Victorian romance set primarily Wiltshire.

What have you learned about writing and publishing since you first started?

That it is an ever-changing business!

Is there anything you would do differently?

Perhaps I should have started writing sooner rather than waiting so late in life, but in general, no.

Who, or what, if anything has influenced your writing?

As a child I read a lot of gothic romance and Agatha Christie murder mysteries. Georgette Heyer was also a huge favorite.

Anything you would say to those just starting out in the craft?

Good luck. It’s a wildly-changing business these days and I wish us all good luck in figuring it out.

What are three words that describe you?

Quiet. Steady. Organized.

What's your favourite book or who is your favourite writer?

I haven’t read her much lately, but I’d have to give the nod to Georgette Heyer.

  2. Enjoyed the interview, and the book sounds great. I was a big fan of Georgette Heyer, too, when I was a teenager.
